We I finally did it. I cooked my first meal using a dutch oven outdoors with charcoal briquettes. I would like to point out, this isn't a cooking blog....as you will see from my poor food pics. HAHA
I had to do it in a make-shift way because I don't have all the neat outdoor dutch oven tools...like say an outdoor dutch oven. This dutch oven is a cast iron chicken fryer that is probably 50+ years old. Grandma used to fry chicken in it. It is well seasoned and I love it for cooking inside. I have been wanting to try outdoor style meals too.....in preparation for the heat wave of summer, I am trying to find ways to keep the heat out of the kitchen for summer dinners.
What is inside the dutch oven you ask?
Elk Steak, onions, Morel Mushrooms, BBQ sauce, Worchestershire Sauce, garlic, and seasonings.
Here it is, all done ready to serve, the steak was super tender, the mushrooms were yummy and all partakers were HAPPY! I will definitely be doing more dutch oven cooking this summer.
